University of Salzburg

Salzburg, a city of Austria and capital of the principality of the federal state of Salzburg, is situated on the banks of the Salza, between three mountains, at the mouth of a long valley, which crosses the Rhaetian Alps.

The University of Salzburg was founded in 1622 by Prince Archbishop Paris Graf von Lodron. The university was completed and given to the Benedictine.

The university was closed in 1810. However, a Roman Catholic theological and philosophical section and a medical school remained within a lyceum (college) until 1850, when the lyceum was closed and the theological and philosophical section was raised to the rank of the university faculty.

In 1962 the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg was reconstituted.
