Monbusho Scholarship

Currently known as Monbukagakusho Scholarship, it is a scholarship offered by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

It was started in 1954. There are two ways in which an overseas student can obtain a Munbusho scholarship. The students either pass the exam or they are recommended by a professor there.

The purpose of these scholarships is to promote mutual understanding and deepening friendly ties between Japan and other countries through the application of advanced knowledge regarding Japan’s language and culture.

The Ministry provides scholarships for study in Japan to foreign students interested in further study of the Japanese language, Japanese affairs and Japanese culture.

There are six types of sponsored scholarships available under the Japanese Monbukagakusho Scholarship program:
*Post-graduate (research) students
*Teacher-training students
*Undergraduate studies
*Japanese studies students
*College of technology students
*Special training students
